What do I do when my Color analysis “season” doesn’t match the current season?

Earlier this week, I received this message from a client:

Dear Wonderful Ana,

I am wondering how to know what colors an “Autumn” chooses for Springtime and Summer. I understand that these colors will be in my fabric swatches. I don’t know how/what to choose.

Help, please!

Love,

Cathy

Firstly, thank you, Cathy, for inspiring me to write this post.

I consider color analysis a powerful tool to use to your advantage. Knowing your best colors enhances your sense of self and understanding of yourself. That doesn’t mean you will wear them all the time. After your color analysis, you will likely think of your colors every time before purchasing a new piece of clothing. However, if you love something out of your swatch and intend to buy it, trust your gut and go for it.

Here are four tips on how to wear colors outside your swatch and still look your best:

1 - If you are a Deep swatch but Spring/Summer is approaching, and you feel lost, explore your swatch and choose the lighter colors within your range. Embrace the current season's colors (Summer/Spring) further from your face.

Pants, shoes, nail polish, handbags, belts, and small accessories don’t necessarily need to match your swatch. Use this flexibility to make your closet fun and versatile.

2 - Ensure your hair color complements your overall look. Your hair is the one accessory you never take off. It frames the face, and other discrepancies become more forgiving when you have a harmonious hair color.

3 - If you like makeup, apply your best colors when wearing a shirt outside your swatch. For instance, if you’re a bright swatch but want to wear a soft sweater, add your best bright-colored lipstick to make a noticeable difference.

4 - Embrace fun seasonal accessories like hats, straw or basket bags, and sandals to set the tone for your Summer and Spring outfits. Remember, texture is as crucial as color to creating an interesting outfit.

There is no right or wrong; the goal is to be happy! I hope this post helps you step into Spring, blooming in colors and feeling extremely confident about your looks!
