Poppin’ Tags: My NYC Thrift Finds

Me in my thrifty habitat.

I visit New York pretty often, but somehow, I had never made it to the thrift stores. Can you believe that? It was on my “must-do” list for the longest time.

This trip, though, I made a point: no more skipping over the thrift shop treasures! Melissa and I were on a mission: hunting for pearls in NYC’s thrift stores! We visited four different shops, and wow, we found some absolute gems to add to our collection!

Here’s what I got:

1. A fun graphic T-shirt with a statement I just couldn’t resist. (Today's outfit an oversized T-shirt and sneakers.)

2. An oversized green jacket—right from my color palette, by the way.

3. A pair of black jeans with the coolest fit I’ve seen in a while.

Melissa crushed it with a super unique jumpsuit and a black skirt that’s going to be a style chameleon for so many outfits.

My favorite? Definitely 2nd Street! It was worth every minute, and if you’re ever in NYC, it’s a spot I highly recommend.

A couple of days later, I headed to Brooklyn, because, believe it or not, I hadn’t walked across the Brooklyn Bridge yet!

Basking in the Brooklyn Bridge sun.

While I was there, I made sure to stop by another 2nd Street, the one in Brooklyn, where I found this gorgeous pink bag. It was actually brand new, tags on and all!

On the same day, I also found a pair of Dr. Martens sandals in another second-hand store.

Now, let's talk about why supporting circular fashion is a win-win for everyone:

  • Reduce clothing waste: By shopping second-hand, we help keep perfectly wearable clothes out of landfills, reducing the environmental impact of fast fashion's overproduction.

  • Save money: Thrifting often means snagging high-quality, unique items for a fraction of their original price, all while staying within your budget.

  • Unique, storied pieces: Each thrifted piece carries its own history, adding a special touch to your wardrobe that can’t be found in mass-produced, store-bought items.

I am absolutely loving pre-loved pieces! The term "pre-loved" speaks to the fact that someone enjoyed and appreciated that item before it found its way to you. Some sellers skip over this sentiment, but I love that these items come with a history, with character. It’s not just second-hand; it’s something special, loved, and ready to be loved again.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on thrift shopping! Leave a comment and share your best second-hand purchase! It’s always fun to hear about great finds!
