From the Street to the Runway
Welcome to another installment in my series on New York Fashion Week! There’s so much to share from this amazing experience, so get ready to be positively overwhelmed by all the goodness. This post is all about what caught my eye at NYFW and on the streets of New York!
If you've been around for a while, you already know that my line of work isn’t primarily about following trends. I don't believe you need to dive into every latest trend to look and feel good. However, I do think it's important to stay somewhat aware of what’s current, to ensure you're not dressing in a way that feels outdated or disconnected from the energy of the present moment.
Remember, “Fashion changes, but style endures.” – Coco Chanel
What I Saw at NYFW
1. Bubble Hem: Skirts, tops, and sleeves with voluminous, balloon-like silhouettes are everywhere.
2. Black and White: A classic combination spotted both on the street and in the shows. Always timeless.
3. Candy Colors: Soft hues like baby pink, light blue, lavender, and their variations made quite an appearance, adding a gentle charm to the palette.
4. Bright Accents: Red shoes were a standout, popping against neutral tones.
5. White Bottoms: Even though Labor Day has passed, white pants are still very much in, defying the usual seasonal "rules."
6. Shades of Brown: An overwhelming number of people wore brown in various shades. The runway shows also embraced this earthy trend.
7. Socks: All types and styles of socks, worn by all sorts of people, were everywhere.
8. Sheer and See-Through: Sheer pieces are all over the place, delicate and bold at the same time.
9. Denim: From double denim outfits to subtle accents like denim shoes and handbags, denim was a major player.
10. Embroidery and Floral Applications: Especially 3D floral appliques that added texture and dimension to pieces. Delicate, artistic, and very eye-catching.
You may have noticed that many of these styles overlap and influence one another. No wonder many of the photos appear multiple times across different trends. Fashion isn’t about isolated pieces. It’s about how everything comes together and tells a story.
The street style photos are snaps I took during fashion week, with the collaboration of my fashion partner, Melissa Fros, who was also keeping an eye on street fashion.
I could go on and on, but I hope some of these trends align with your personal style, and you're able to embrace them. Now that you know, I’m sure your eyes will recognize these elements every time you spot one out there!
Now tell me, which of these trends would you embrace, and which one is a definite hell-no for you?
