Backyard Olympics and my summer break

Not fashion related but fun related!

I took some time off in the past week. Work often doesn’t feel like work, so I find myself neglecting to take time off for other things. But now that I’ve finally had the chance, I’m so glad I allowed myself to recharge. I feel inspired and came out of it with so many new ideas!

My family prepared every detail of our Backyard Olympics, which was truly the highlight of the past week. I’m not a sports person, but all the activities were so much fun! This was the third year, and my husband’s aunts Heather and Janet, along with our family friend Robin, planned every detail. It was incredible. We were a group of 15 people, and most of us, including me, participated in the competition. They thought of everything, there were prizes, medals, an Olympic flame, decorations, all sorts of snacks, and even fake tattoos. It was amazing!

It was such a delightful day for me and my family. Brendon got the gold medal, which he was very proud of, and wore the medal for the last 5 days. The big takeaway from the past week is understanding that creativity comes when you give time to it. Like I’ve read in a quote I found on Pinterest, “Creative people need time to sit around and do nothing.”

In the past week, I updated my new looks on my styling platform, something I haven’t done in the last six months. Despite doing that, I realized how much I had fallen into default dressing. Sometimes, stepping away from what you’re doing allows you to see things more clearly and avoid tunnel vision. I decided to refresh my Pinterest board and also upload all my inspirations to my styling app. This made it easier to compare my pieces with my inspirations. I also decluttered my app by deleting pieces that no longer aligned with my goals, which felt very refreshing.

I’m feeling so ready for fall! I’m inspired and happy, and it’s funny how I didn’t even realize I needed that short vacation.

I hope this post inspires you to listen to your gut and take a break to recharge if you haven’t already.

I’d love to hear how your summer has been. What have you been up to, and how have you been enjoying the warm weather? Post in the comments!
