The comeback of skirts

Yes, skirts are everywhere. Did you notice?

Some have prints, some have bright colors, others have rich textures or solid colors.

If you are a big fan of skirts, this is the right time to get yours out of the closet.

In fact, during my stay in New York for New York Fashion Week, I saw not only women wearing skirts but lots of men rocking their skirts all over the city.

Here are four things to keep in mind before choosing a skirt.

1 - Think about what body part you would like to highlight.

Choose a style of skirt that has details around that area.

I'll give you an example: I have narrow hips and would love to bring dimension to that area. Here are some styles of skirts that I'd wear to flatter my silhouette.

2 - The fabric and the construction of the skirt matter.

Ensure you acquire a piece of clothing that suits your body properly. Look at the construction and the quality of the fabric before purchasing it.

You also want to take into consideration if the fabric is weather-appropriate. Winter is right there, and I highly recommend you go with skirts made of wool instead of silk at this time of the year.

3 - I am petite. Can I wear midi-length skirts?

First, you can wear anything you want if that makes you feel good and confident. But if the effect of midi-length skirts bothers you, I suggest you wear midi skirts with shoes in the same shade as your skin tone. That will create the illusion that your leg length goes further down to your toes.

Skirts that have a slit are also great for petites. The vertical line balances the silhouette and gives a fresh and modern look to it.

4 - If you are insecure about what style of skirt to acquire, I advise starting with classic shapes and solid colors such as black, charcoal, navy blue, burgundy, or brown.

Some great prints to keep in mind are smaller stripes, polka dots, florals, and plaid.
